Personal Notes:

Immigrated to USA 1866, naturalised 24 Jul 1871. In the San Francisco directory for 1889 it list his address 262 Octavia, occupation teacher languages and for 1890 it lists his address 517 Grove, occupation teacher and business name Pacific Hebrew Orphan Asylum. In the US Federal Census 1900 living at 39 Bush Street, San Francisco. In his obituary in the San Francisco Examiner dated 8 April 1912 it says: William Lissner, a pioneer educator of San Francisco, a cousin of Meyer Lissner of Los Angeles, died Saturday at the German Hospital at the age of 64 years. His home was at 1379 Grove street. For twenty years Lissner was at the head of the Hebrew Orphanage Asylum, and in the course of half a century of residence here he was a power in the advancement of educational interests.
