Played the violin as a child. He was interned in a concentration camp in the early 1930's by the Nazi government and was only released when his father paid a large sum of money.
Belgium 1933-35. Is also said to have been in Switzerland and England during this time. Emigrated to South Africa (Johannesburg) in 1935 together with his brother and sister Eva. Became Harry Stone. Married at St Marys Cathedral. On 22nd September 1950 he and his family moved to Bulawayo, Rhodesia where he was employed at a sports shop, managing the cycle department and specialising in custom-made bicycles and tricycles for cerebral-palsy sufferers. Enjoyed cycling and mountain climbing and was the first owner of a VW beetle in Bulawayo. In about 1963 he left his family and emigrated to New Zealand spending some time with his brother in Cape Town before sailing. Died of a heart attack. |
